How to Give Up Single-Use Plastic Water Bottles For Good!

Introducing the Berkey Sport Purification Bottle

Green Living Blog

Around the world humans buy about one million plastic bottles per minute in total…

Single-use plastics frequently do not make it to a landfill nor are they recycled. A full 32% of the 78 million tons of plastic packaging produced annually is left to flow into our oceans; the equivalent of pouring one garbage truck of plastic into the ocean every minute! Clearly, if you haven’t yet, it is time to jump on getting a reusable water bottle.

While replacing single-use plastic bottles with a reusable bottle is good, what about the quality of the water your are putting in the bottle?

A Harvard study found that the drinking water of millions of Americans contains PFASs, industrial chemicals known to cause cancer and immunodeficiency.

Its great if you can fill up from a proper water filter system like the Berkey when you’re at home but what about when you’ve gotten to the last sip of your bottle at work, or while shopping or at pesky airport security that don’t let you bring outside water in? Are you going to fill up your bottle with risky tap water?

Well, with the Berkey Sport Purification Bottle you actually can! The water bottle has a filtration system so you know you’ll only be drinking the good stuff. The exclusive filter element of this Sport Bottle promotes IONIC "adsorption" of pollutants, such as cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, aluminum, mercury, and other dangerous heavy metals. It also removes harmful microscopic Pathogens (E-coli, Cryptosporidium, Giardia and other Pathogenic Bacteria), Chlorine, THM's, VOC's, Detergents and Pesticides, Radon, Foul Tastes and Odors, Cloudiness, Silt, and Sediment. The filter inside will need to be replaced after 640 refills (100 gal) of municipal source water and 160 refills (25 gal) of questionable source water (it can be used to purify water from lakes/ponds/rivers in emergency situations).

The only part about this product I don’t love is that it is plastic. At least it is BPA free and re-usable. It can be used for 50 years as long as you change the filter. I hope that one day Berkey comes out with a stainless steel version.

You can find the water bottle that comes with the initial filter here on Amazon.
