Teachers deserve to get paid and students deserve classes which recognize the multiple realities of economic access and privilege that exist. Please read the information below to understand where you land on the sliding scale. I put a lot of hours into preparing for every class so that it’s worth your time. Please use the scale honestly so that all can benefit.
Please pay The highest price on the scale if you:
—Have access to financial security
—Own property
—Have personal savings
If you are able to pay for "wants" and spend little time worried about securing the necessities of life (food, shelter and medical/child care) then you have economic privilege and the highest price is for you. It is the cost that I would charge all students in the absence of a sliding scale.
Please pay a middle price on the scale if you:
—Are struggling to conquer debt or build savings
— Live paycheck-to-paycheck but have access to steady income
— Are not spending most of your time thinking about meeting basic needs such as food, shelter and medical/child care
If paying for a class would be difficult, but not detrimental, please use the middle price on the scale. You might have to cut back on other spending in your life (such as buying a specialty coffee, or a new outfit), but this will not have a long term harmful impact on your life. It is a sacred sacrifice in order to pursue something you are called to do.
Please pay a lower price on the scale if you:
